new year, new you?

gentle reader,

i can't say that i buy into the mantra of new year, new you.

because a turn of a calendar page does not change who you are.

if it were that easy, the world would be an even more magical place to live, wouldn't it?

so many make new year resolutions. so many buy that gym membership. so many are looking for the q1uick fix to all their issues.

let me give you a little secret: there is no such thing as a quick fix.

duct tape ain't gonna solve your problems.

the only way you are going to change is when you make a conscious effort to do so.

when you decide it's time to be different.

when you decide you want better.

when you decide you deserve better.

and sometimes that means going through some really tough times. sometimes it means taking a long, hard look at yourself and your actions.

because actions never lie.

i'll take actions over words any time.

obviously, we all have moments.

moments where we aren't the person we really want to be.

and that's ok.

as long as you realize that and grow from those experiences.

just because dick clark's new year's rockin' eve happened, doesn't mean that i am a new person.

and if you want to be a different person, you certainly do not have to wait until 12-31-17 11:59pm to make that declaration!

tomorrow is not promised to any of us.

hell, the next minute isn't a given!

you don't have to wait for the clock or the calendar to make a decision to do or be better.

you can make that decision right the eff now.

and if you screw up?

re-commit yourself right the eff now.

i strive to be better than i was yesterday, every day.

do i have setbacks?

do i let that stop me?

don't let it stop you.

we all have a past, a present, and a future.

i suggest you make the best of your past by being cognizant of your present by thinking about your future with precision.

  • for the sound of their {⬆️} nap snores
  • for a clean sink
  • someone else hangs and takes down the christmas lights

just breathing isn't living!
